Hello Winter Fun Group,
Winter has returned! Our next outing is on Tuesday, March 1. Kris Besson and Helen Heeren will be leading a snowshoe along the Porcupine Snowshoe Loop at Swampy Sno-Park. This loop is roughly 4.1 miles and is rated as moderate. It is a relatively level loop which meanders through a thin forest of lodgepole pine, white fir, mountain hemlock and Engelmann spruce. Once you leave the forest, vistas open up as the trail skirts around Swampy Lakes and climbs 200 feet over Telemark Butte. At roughly the 2 mile halfway point you come to Swampy Shelter. We will pause at the shelter to refuel, and then continue the loop back to the parking lot.
We will be meeting in the parking lot at Country Store in the Village at 9:00 am on Tuesday, March 1. Members can choose to carpool or drive separately to the Swampy Sno-Park parking lot (a Sno-Park Permit is required). Please note that those carpooling must wear masks regardless of vaccination status.
- Please leave furry friends at home.
- We are hoping this is a snowshoe activity, but conditions can change. Once we have you on the list to attend we will be following up with another email on Monday Feb 28 with recommendations on footwear (boots with yaktrax/microspikes or snowshoes) and how much time we think the outing will take.
Please respond directly to Helen Heeren if you would like to join this outing on March 1.
We hope you join us on the trail,
Kris Besson and Helen Heeren
