AUGUST 2: DUFFY LAKE in the Jefferson Wilderness west of Three Fingered Jack amongst numerous lakes, meadows and buttes. TH located 25 miles west of Sisters. Meet at HTCC east parking lot off Cottonwood across from the market at 7:30am.
6.6 miles R/T 800 feet gain and known as a great swimming lake and its reflection of craggy Duffy Butte. It climbs gradually through the stately forest of old Douglas Fir and Hemlocks. 1 crossing of North Santiam Creek that may have ankle deep water according to the Wilderness Ranger I spoke with last week. The Ranger also stated they had not yet checked this trail this year for downed trees so possible we may encounter some across the trail. Hikers may wish to bring a pair of old sandals to cross. Bring plenty of water, hiking poles help in creek crossings, sun hat & sun screen, mosquito repellant, sturdy shoes, lunch & snacks. This is an all day hike 7:30-5:30. Sisters Ice Cream stop for refueling and happy smiles.
