Dry River Canyon hike

Weather permitting, Kathy Ketchum will lead this 4.6 mile (547 ft gain/loss) out and back hike into the Oregon Badlands Wilderness. The trail winds through a narrow canyon of old juniper, boulders and steep, colorful basalt cliffs. It was formed by an ancient river that once drained the ancient Lake Millican. The canyon will close Feb 1 – Aug 31 for wildlife protection (e.g. nesting raptors) so this is our last chance until September!  Meet at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and limit 8.

The trailhead is 40 minutes from Sunriver. Bring a lunch or snacks, poles for a rocky trail and layers. The bottom of the canyon doesn't get much winter sun so can be chilly, but the good news is the canyon blocks most of the wind that frequently blows in Badlands.  If there is interest, we can stop at Worthy Brewing on the way home.
