Pavement, Gravel, and Waterfalls

When:  10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 2, 2025

Meet at the Sun Lava Trail trailhead off Circle 7 in Sunriver.  Parking is free in the adjacent gravel/dirt parking area. Here’s a link to the trail map.  You’ll see the parking area just off Circle 7 where the Deschutes River Trail and the Sun-Lava Paved Path meet.

Description:

This ride is an out and back, paved trail-gravel road combo with stunning waterfalls and gorgeous viewpoints along the way.  We'll meet at the Sun-Lava trailhead off Circle 7 in Sunriver. From there we’ll ride the paved Sun-Lava path to the Benham East Trailhead.  From the trailhead we’ll cross the wooden bridge and ride the gravel road to Benham Falls, the Slough Day use area and out to Dillon Falls. After stopping to admire the falls we’ll head back the way we came, stopping for lunch at the beautiful Slough Day Use picnic area. After lunch we’ll continue on the gravel road back to the Benham Falls trailhead.  From there we'll rejoin the paved path back to Circle 7.  This is a mostly flat ride of approximately 14 miles with about a 332 foot elevation change. Pit toilets are available along the route.

Note: If we have mountain bike volunteers willing to lead, riders will have the option of taking the single track trail from Benham Falls trailhead to circle 7. This track is an intermediate ride with ascents, descents, and small rock gardens.

Before you arrive for the ride, please read the guidelines for group rides here. If you need a visual reminder on commonly used bike signals, it’s available here.

Gear:  Bring your hybrid, gravel, or mountain bike, helmet (required), sunglasses, layered clothing, personal first aid supplies, sunscreen, bug spray, water, snacks and a bagged lunch.
