Winter Fun - Dry River Canyon Hike

Dry River Canyon hike in Oregon Badlands Wilderness

When:  Monday, November 17
Meet up HTTC on Cottonwood 9:00 leave by 9:15 am.  Drivers needed, $6 to driver plus money for lunch. Trail is located 17 miles East of Bend off Hyway 20. No permits needed.

4.8 miles, 575 ft gain, elevation of hike 3,700 ft at start of trail. Trail surface is dirt with occasional mix of crumbed lava.

Gear: sunscreen, hat, water, snacks, $ for car pooling & lunch after at Midtown Yacht Club on 4th Street in Bend, hiking shoes, layered clothing, jacket. If temps are chilly then add gloves & warm hat or ear muffs.

This hiking trail is closed from February through August due to bird nesting making it an ideal hike for Fall & early Winter. The trail follows a now dry ancient river that once cut through this canyon with river water coming from iced over Lake Mullican before emptying into the Crooked River. This stunning gorge features wildlife viewing opportunities, incredible rock walls and intriguing topographical history.
