Description:
DESCHUTES RIVER SOUTH CANYON TRAIL – Easy 3.1 miles loop trail with 137’ elevation gain in Bend. It takes an average of 1 – 1.5 hours to complete. Starting from Farewell Bend Park, this loop follows the Deschutes River Trail and Mount Bachelor Village Trail. The path is a combination of crushed gravel, wooden boardwalks, and small stretches of pavement. It is a very popular spot for dog walkers, runners, and cyclists due to its close proximity to town. Highlights include beautiful scenery, well-maintained paths, and river access points. Challenges are occasional rocky areas and crowds. Recommendations include starting early and bringing water.
When considering signing up for this hike, please review the specifics (e.g. distance, elevation gain, trail surface - gravel, rocky, soft sand etc.) to determine if this trail meets your fitness level.
Gear: Water, snacks, $ for going out to lunch afterwards (optional), hiking poles (optional), sturdy hiking shoes, layered clothing, personal first aid supplies, insect repellent. There is a large free parking lot at Farewell Bend Park.
